Aftercare support
Good healing starts the moment the piercing is done. Here is Tribal Expression's complete local aftercare routine — and for the deep, exhaustive aftercare library, families go to KidsPiercing.com.
Tribal Expression aftercare at a glance
Morning and evening, every day
Clean twice daily — once in the morning, once in the evening — until healing is complete.
PureCleanse preferred, saline acceptable
We prefer PureCleanse™, a hypochlorous acid (HOCl) wound cleanser. Sterile saline remains a good, acceptable cleanser.
Three fresh saturated swabs per ear
Use three new swabs, fully saturated, for each ear — every cleaning, every time.
Front to back
Clean from the front of the piercing through to the back, one direction, gently.
Wash hands between ears
Clean hands before you start, and wash again between the first ear and the second.
No twisting, no spinning
Never twist or rotate the jewellery — fresh piercings heal best when they are left alone.
First cleaning: the night of the piercing
The first routine cleaning happens the night of the piercing, before bed.
Support the whole way
Aftercare at Tribal Expression is supported throughout healing — call or come back with any question, at any point.
Why does the post look longer now?
Several weeks after an ear piercing, parents sometimes notice that more of the post is visible. That can actually be a positive sign that the original swelling has decreased. The jewellery did not necessarily change — the ear did. This is one of the reasons we recommend a professional fit check.

Why we prefer PureCleanse (HOCl)
PureCleanse™ is a hypochlorous acid (HOCl) wound cleanser. Its manufacturer positions it as an antimicrobial wound cleanser that is non-cytotoxic, disrupts biofilm, and needs no rinsing. We prefer it for kids aftercare because it adds antimicrobial wound-cleansing function while preserving the gentle philosophy we have always valued.
Saline didn’t become bad
For more than 18 years, Tribal Expression used sterile saline exclusively — and saline remains a very good cleanser: it rinses mechanically, softens and removes healing debris, and has an excellent long-term record. Better wound-cleansing technology became available, and that is the only reason our preference changed. Saline is acceptable. PureCleanse is our current recommendation.
Swimming
Plan swimming around healing — pools, hot tubs and lakes are best avoided early on. Check with us before your child swims and we’ll help you plan.
Sleeping & pressure
Try to avoid sleeping directly on new piercings — pressure can irritate them. A travel pillow can help in the first weeks.
When to contact us
Bumps, swelling, snagging, an earring that falls out, or anything that looks or feels wrong — contact the studio. If there is spreading redness, heat, pus or fever, see a physician.

Healing and Aftercare
Ear lobes typically heal in about six to eight weeks with a simple routine: clean twice a day as shown, hands off, and leave the first studs in until your piercer confirms healing is complete.

Hypochlorous acid, shortened to HOCl, is a weak acid that also plays an important role in the body’s own immune defence — the reason Tribal Expression evolved from more than 18 years of sterile saline to PureCleanse™ HOCl as part of our piercing aftercare system.
