Preparation

Prepare for your piercing day

A calm piercing day starts before you arrive. Here is how to prepare your child — honestly, simply, and without promises we can't keep.

For grown-ups

Explain it honestly

Describe the piercing in simple, real words: a quick pinch, and then it is over. Avoid promising "it won’t hurt" — some kids feel more, some feel less, and honesty builds trust.

Let them ask questions

Encourage questions before the day. Unknowns are usually scarier than facts. Our Kids Questions page is written for them.

Food & hydration

Arrive with your child rested and fed — a good breakfast or snack helps big feelings stay manageable.

Clothing & hair

Comfortable clothes, and hair tied back or easy to tuck away from the ears.

Bring a comfort item

A stuffy, a fidget, a favourite sweater — whatever helps. Comfort items are welcome.

Bring what you need

A parent or legal guardian, parent/guardian identification, and your child’s jewellery choice ideas if they have them.

Expect unhurried time

Appointments are paced around your child — questions, marking, checking, and the piercing itself all take the time they need.

Plan the aftercare

Know the cleaning routine before you leave the studio, and who at home will help with it.

The day-before checklist

  • Hair tied back or easy to tuck away from the ears
  • A comfortable top — something that doesn’t need pulling over the head at the end of the day
  • A snack and some water for before the appointment
  • The comfort item your child chose — stuffy, fidget, headphones
  • Your child’s questions, written down if they want
  • A parent or legal guardian with identification
  • Earring ideas, if your child already has favourites in mind

What not to do

  • Don’t promise it won’t hurt — honesty is what keeps their trust on the day.
  • Don’t make the piercing a surprise. Kids do best when they know what’s coming.
  • Don’t use the piercing as a reward or a punishment — it should be theirs, not a bargaining chip.
  • Don’t squeeze the appointment between errands. Leave breathing room.
  • Don’t talk about your own piercing fears in front of your child — they listen more than we think.
