What happens on piercing day?
A professional kids ear-piercing appointment follows a clear, unhurried journey. Here is every step — explained for grown-ups, gentle enough to read with your child.
- 1
Arrive
You check in together. There is no rush — the studio is kid-friendly and the pace is yours.
- 2
Meet Iliana
Iliana says hello to your child — not just to you. She answers every question, kid questions included.

- 3
Choose jewellery
Your child chooses their earrings: implant-grade titanium made right here, with gemstones, shapes and colours to pick from.
- 4
Watch your jewellery be sterilized
You watch the jewellery be sterilized before your eyes — nothing goes near your child until it’s completely sterile.

- 5
Come to the piercing room
Seated and settled in the calm, private piercing room, comfort item in arm’s reach.
- 6
Cleaning and marking
We clean the ear and place tiny dots that mark exactly where the piercing will go. Your child looks in the mirror and approves the marks — nothing happens until they say yes.
- 7
Piercing setup
Iliana explains how the process goes and sets up the tools. Every step is explained before it happens.
- 8
Gentle earlobe hold
A soft clamp gently holds the earlobe. Don’t worry — it isn’t painful, just little helpers that keep everything steady.
- 9
Piercing and jewellery insert
A quick pinch with a sterile, single-use professional needle, and the jewellery goes in as part of it. Iliana works with your child’s breathing — it’s done as quick as they even feel it, one ear at a time.

- 10
Celebrate
The big mirror moment: your child sees their new earrings for the first time. This is the part families remember.
- 11
Go over aftercare instructions
Simple aftercare steps, the products we recommend, and when to check in with us during healing.
- 12
Celebrate again!
A Bravery & Courage certificate from the Kid Ear Piercing Club — theirs to take home, with a very proud kid.
- 13
The 6–8 week fit check
Around 6–8 weeks we recommend a jewellery fit check: we look at the ear, the jewellery, the remaining swelling and how healing is progressing — then decide whether a shorter post is appropriate.
- 14
Downsize when appropriate
If the ear is ready, we replace the longer starter post with a shorter, properly fitted one — often keeping the same decorative front. Professional downsizing is $20 per ear.
- 15
Continue healing
A downsize doesn't mean healing is finished — the piercing keeps healing and strengthening over the following months, with our support the whole way.

Before you arrive
- Eat something first. A normal meal or snack helps — no child does nervous better on an empty stomach.
- Tie hair back and skip creams or lotions around the ears on the day.
- Bring what the studio needs to see. Parent or legal guardian identification and child identification are required for every kids appointment, and the identification must establish the relationship between them. Where the parent/legal guardian and child have matching last names, normal qualifying identification can establish the relationship. Where last names do not match, or legal guardianship is not otherwise obvious, please bring guardianship, custody or other legal documentation establishing the adult’s authority to consent.
- Arrive with time to settle in. Rushed kids are nervous kids — the appointment is unhurried by design.
Honest answers about piercing day
Does it hurt?
A quick pinch — most kids tell us it was over before they were ready for it to hurt. We never lie about it: it pinches, then it fades. What surprises most families is how calm and quick the actual moment is compared to the worrying beforehand.
How long does the whole appointment take?
Plan for an unhurried visit — the appointment includes choosing jewellery, cleaning and marking, the piercing itself (seconds per ear), and aftercare teaching. The piercing part is the shortest part of the day.
Do you pierce both ears in one visit?
Yes — both ears are done in the same visit, with a little reset between them. If one ear is plenty of adventure for one day, that is a perfectly acceptable outcome too.
Can my child change their mind?
Always — even sitting on the chair. We never pierce a child who says stop, and nothing about the appointment is forced or restrained. Readiness is the whole point.
Can I stay with my child?
Yes — a grown-up stays with their child the entire time, and you watch every step, from the opened needle package to the mirror moment.
A tour of the studio — before you ever book
See what your family will walk into: the front door, the shop, the jewellery, and where the piercing happens. The more familiar it looks, the calmer piercing day feels.
