Nervous kids & big feelings
Does ear piercing hurt? Most kids feel a quick pinch, and everyone experiences it a little differently. Nervous is okay — and so is everything that comes with it.
What we promise kids
We never say "it doesn’t hurt."
Most kids feel a quick pinch. Everyone experiences it a little differently. Honest words make kids trust us — and trust makes brave kids.
Nervous is okay.
Almost every child is nervous. Nerves just mean it matters. We go at your child’s pace, every single time.
Crying is okay.
Tears happen sometimes — before, during, or after. It is never embarrassing, never a problem, and never rushed.
Asking questions is okay.
Kids can ask anything, at any point, as many times as they need. Curious kids are prepared kids.
Pausing is okay.
Your child can ask for a pause or to stop, at any point in the appointment. The child is part of the decision.
Big feelings get space.
We give feelings room to breathe — a quieter moment, a comfort item, a parent’s hand, or just a slower explanation.
What parents can do
- Stay calm — kids read your face before they feel their own fear.
- Talk about the mirror moment: "then you’ll see your new earrings!"
- Let your child bring a comfort item or a fidget.
- Arrive fed and rested — tired and hungry makes everything harder.
- Let your child own the decisions: which earrings, which ear first.
- Celebrate after — the certificate, the photos, the pride.
What to say — and what to skip
The words you use before the appointment shape how the day feels. These are the phrases that help most.
Say this
- “It feels like a quick pinch, and then it’s done.”
- “You can ask Iliana anything you want.”
- “You can squeeze my hand the whole time.”
- “If you want to stop, we stop. That’s the rule.”
- “Afterwards, you’ll see your new earrings in the mirror.”
Skip this
- “It doesn’t hurt at all!”
- “Only babies are scared.”
- “If you’re brave, we’ll get you a toy.”
- “Stop crying — it’s already done.”
- “The girl before you was way younger than you.”
